Ten Hours of One-on-One Spanish Lessons
Lessons are conducted online. Students are paired with an individual instructor in Guatemala who will begin with the appropriate proficiency level of Spanish. You may choose 1-, 1.5, or 2-hour sessions. Start times can occur between 8am and 11pm EST. The ten hours of lessons can be scheduled for times that are best for you. You will received a certificate for ten hours of Spanish upon completion.
Six, One-Hour Cultural Activity Sessions
Sessions are scheduled throughout a two-week period. All six sessions will be live and conducted over Zoom. Sessions will be recorded and available to you should a session be missed.
Sessions include:
Medicinal Garden
Students will receive a virtual tour of a medicinal garden in Guatemala along with a lesson on the various healing properties of the plants heavily relied on in the region. The method of use is also discussed (i.e. organic teas, lotions, soaps).
Guatemalan Healthcare System
A physician in Guatemala will describe how the healthcare system works with a description of the health clinics and hospitals. The session will also include diseases and conditions that are prevalent in the Guatemalan population.
Cooking Class
Tortillas are a staple in Central America, so tortilla making is great activity for the students. Students are able to make tortillas together over Zoom.
Weaving Demonstration
In Guatemala, weaving is an ancient art. Local weavers give a presentation on how the weaving is done as well as how they use natural dyes for their yarn which comes from cotton that they grow from seeds.
Salsa Dance Class
Salsa dancing is a Latin American dance tradition. A salsa dance instructor in Guatemala will lead a session in which students will be exposed to Spanish salsa music and will be taught the basic steps for salsa dancing.
Chocolate Farm Tour
Chocolate farms are prevalent in Guatemala. Students will be given a virtual tour and demonstration on how the chocolate is made from the plants to the beans to the finished product.
Latin American Podcasts
An assortment of podcasts relevant to Latin American culture and current events will be provided.
All students will receive a Global Learning Experience certificate as well as a diploma for 10 hours of Spanish lessons.
Total cost is $250.00.
